Scanned PDF to Excel (OCR)

A scanned PDF is a picture, so its text has to be recognised first. This converter reads it with OCR, straightens the page, rebuilds the table into rows and columns and marks every cell it is unsure about.

Remove repeated rows?

Exact repeats are left out and listed on a "Removed rows" sheet.

Scanned pages (OCR)

Only pages that are pictures are read with OCR (recommended).

From picture to table

  • Pages that are pictures are found automatically - no setting needed.
  • A page scanned sideways is turned, and a slightly crooked page is straightened.
  • Ruled lines in the scan are used to find the cells, and removed before reading so they are not mistaken for characters.
  • Letters mistaken for digits in number columns (O for 0, l for 1) are corrected, and every correction is listed.

Choose the language of the document

OCR in 45 languages: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and more. English is always read as well, so mixed documents work.

Tips for a good result

Scan at 200 to 300 dpi, keep the page flat and well lit, and include the heading row. Very small or blurry print cannot be read reliably by any OCR.

Questions

Is the OCR free?

Yes, and there is no page limit per day other than 100 pages per file.

Why are some cells yellow?

Yellow marks a value the OCR was not sure about. Compare it with the scan before using it.

Does it work on a phone photo of a page?

Yes. Save or share the photo as JPG or PNG and choose it here, or put it in a PDF first.
