PDF to Excel in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and other Indian languages

Government lists, land records, mark sheets, ration and voter lists, and office reports are often in Indian languages. Choose the language under "Language of scanned pages" and the table is read with OCR for that script, together with English.

Remove repeated rows?

Exact repeats are left out and listed on a "Removed rows" sheet.

Scanned pages (OCR)

Only pages that are pictures are read with OCR (recommended).

Supported Indian languages

Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi (Gurmukhi), Odia, Assamese, Urdu, Sanskrit, Nepali and Sinhala. English words and numbers in the same table are read too.

Digits in Indian scripts

Numbers written in Devanagari (०१२३), Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and other native digits are converted to ordinary digits, so amounts and dates become real Excel numbers and dates you can add up and sort.

PDFs with text inside

When the PDF was made on a computer (not scanned), the text is read directly without OCR. If the letters come out broken - some PDFs store Indian scripts with old non-Unicode fonts - set "Scanned pages" to "Always OCR" and choose the language: the page is then read as a picture, which gives correct Unicode text.

Questions

Is Telugu or Tamil OCR accurate?

On clear printed text, yes. Accuracy drops on small, blurry or decorative fonts, and cells the OCR is unsure of are marked yellow so you can check them.

Do I need to install anything for my language?

No. The language data downloads into your browser the first time you use it and is then kept in the cache.
