Joining a table that runs over many PDF pages
Last updated: 17 October 2026
One table in Excel, with the heading once and no row lost or repeated at the page breaks.
The problem with page breaks
Long tables continue over many pages. Each page repeats the heading, and some documents add "carried forward" at the bottom and "brought forward" at the top. A row can even be split across the break, with half of its text on the next page.
How the pieces are joined
The result is one table, from the first page to the last. Up to 100 pages are converted per file.
- Each page's piece is matched to the table before it by its heading and by whether the earlier column positions fit it.
- The repeated heading is dropped.
- Carried and brought forward lines are set aside and listed in the report.
- A row cut in two by the page break is joined again.
