Converting invoices and GST bills to Excel

Item tables with quantity, rate and amount, plus the sub-total, GST and grand total lines under them.
Item tables with borders
Most invoices draw a grid around the item table. The converter reads the cells from those lines, so a description that wraps onto two lines inside one cell stays in one cell. HSN codes keep their exact digits because they are stored as text.
The totals under the table
Sub-total, GST and grand total are usually printed below the grid, aligned with the Amount column. They are placed under the right column with their label in the description column, and the totals are checked: the sub-total must equal the sum of the items, and the grand total must equal the sum of the lines above it.
If you want to add up the items yourself, tick "Total and sub-total rows" in the checklist and they move to a separate sheet.
Quantity × rate
When a table has quantity, rate and amount columns, every row is checked. A row where quantity times rate does not give the amount is marked, which catches typing mistakes in the invoice as well as misread digits.
