European numbers (1.234,56) and US dates (03/04/2026)

Last updated: 17 October 2026

Two settings that are off by default, because guessing wrong is worse than not guessing.

Decimal commas

In much of Europe 1.234,56 means one thousand two hundred thirty-four and fifty-six hundredths. Read the Indian or English way it makes no sense. The converter never guesses here: a column like this stays as text until you tick "European numbers like 1.234,56", which then reads every value correctly. It will never turn 99,50 into 9950.

Day first or month first

Dates are read day first (3 April for 03/04/2026), as in India and most countries. A column that contains a value like 25/12/2026 settles the order by itself. When every date could be read either way and your document is American, tick "Dates written month/day" to read them month first.
